The kitchen has a vaulted ceiling and a hearth which measures approx 14 ft(3.3 m).

There is a large  fireplace (Approx 11feet 2.6 m long) In is a "lairds lug" (spy hole) from which the watcher can see and hear what is happening in the main hall.

The castle passed into the possession of the Maxwells od Orchardton, who took the roof off and stripped the castle of its contents. The ruin was then sold in 1782 to the Earl of Selkirk.
