A nature reserve with a bird hide now surrounds the ruins of the Castle.

Located approximately one mile south of Lochmaben on the Dalton Road. From which, is signposted. Accessible by car, and there is a car park .

The later of the two castles in Lochmaben - a 13/14th century stone castle. Lying at the southern end of Castle Loch it was of vital strategic importance.
From 1524 - 1588 belonged to the Lords Maxwell.
It is also the reputed birthplace of Robert The Bruce.
Both James IV and Mary, Queen of Scots visited here. |
